Research Areas
The consequences of the emergency health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures taken by the Government of Spain in declaring the state of emergency to protect the population’s health and safety, contain the spread and sustain the public health system are evident in both the Spanish and Valencian economy, while future impacts are also expected. Therefore, detailed studies of the impact of the COVID-19 crisis are necessary in the following areas: employment and GDP, business activity and viability, measures to support the productive fabric and people, the importance of technological opportunities and the effects on inequality. To carry out these analyses, the Ivie has formed a multidisciplinary group of experts to support the Presidency Office of the Valencian Regional Government through the development of several research lines.
On the one hand, the Ivie prepares brief documents with rigorous data on each of the topics that are considered relevant to diagnose problems and to guide in the design of public policies in a timely manner. On the other hand, the group of experts works on defining methodologies and data systems that help analyze and interpret information obtained from various sources. In addition, the Ivie strives to respond to people’s concerns in the face of these uncertain and unprecedented circumstances by means of periodic short documents aimed at society in general.
As a result of this line of collaboration, the Ivie has developed the Covid19:IvieExpress series of short documents and the database COVID-19 Severity and Impact Indicators (ISIC-19).
The Ivie has also developed, at the request of the Valencian Regional Government, the report La superación de la crisis del COVID-19 en la Comunitat Valenciana (Overcoming the COVID-19 crisis in the Valencian Community) which analyzes the effects of the coronavirus crisis on the economy of the Valencian Community and proposes a rebuilding strategy, not only to obtain a fast recovery of pre-crisis levels of well-being, but also to reduce the preexisting economic gap between the Valencian Community and Spain.
