The aim of this report is to create an observatory based on a system of indicators that will be used to develop the report. The analysis of the sector is enhanced by focusing on international comparisons in the report. In addition, the report will consider all stages of the value chain, including primary production, processing and distribution (both wholesale and retail).
The project includes detailed information factsheets for the major agri-food producing sectors. It covers the period 2008-2020 for the international comparison, but also includes 2021 in the case of Spain. This is the 5th edition of the report, which quantifies the different productive branches that define the agri-food sector in joint and examines their characteristics from six points of view: size, growth and composition; employment; productivity and competitiveness; the shopping basket; inflation and prices; foreign trade, investment effort in R&D; and the main subsectors. This year’s edition includes an analysis of the business fabric, R&D projects and an expansion of environmental indicators in the agri-food industry.
