The Spanish agri-food sector in the European context. 2020 Report

The aim of this project is to build an observatory based on a system of indicators that will be used to develop a report on the Spanish agri-food sector. The analysis of the sector is enhanced by focusing on international comparisons. In addition, the report considers the entire value chain of the sector, which includes primary sector, processing industry and distribution (both wholesale and retail distribution).

The study also included detailed information sheets for the most relevant agri-food goods producing sectors. The period covered for the international comparison will be 2008-2019, but includes the year 2020 for Spain. This is the 4th edition of the report, which jointly quantifies the different productive branches that define the agri-food sector and examines its characteristics from six points of view: size, growth and composition; employment; productivity and competitiveness; the shopping basket; inflation and prices; foreign trade, investment effort in R&D; and main subsectors. This year’s report also includes an analysis of the progress made in the sustainability of the sector and its role in environmental protection.
