The competitiveness of Spanish regions in the knowledge economy

Project start date: 2015
Year of publication: 2017
Funding institution: Fundación BBVA

The objective of this research is to assess whether Spanish regions are prepared to take advantage of the possibilities offered by the knowledge economy, and to analyze to what extent their relative economic position is due to the availability and use of knowledge assets, such as highly qualified work and certain categories of productive capital. Some industries are particularly intensive in the use of these assets, and it is therefore important to evaluate their importance in each region’s economic fabric, since this affects their growth capacity.
