This document aims to determine, from an economic perspective, the most relevant features of the violent flash floods that hit Valencia on October 29th of 2024. To assess the impact, the study examines the loss of both private and public assets, such as infrastructure, machinery, equipment, and buildings and facilities related to housing, commerce, industry, and agriculture, as well as the wealth of the flood-affected towns. In addition to analyzing the stock of capital destroyed, the impact of the dana on employment and GDP is considered, as well as the insufficient investment effort in hydraulic systems, the high concentration of economic activity in the flooded areas and the increased risks of extreme weather events. Furthermore, the authors of the study offer some recommendations for handling the reconstruction.
