Research Areas

This aim of this project, developed between 2010 and 2012, has been to identify and develop a series of indicators to study how the services sector affects economic growth. The initiative, in which the Ivie takes part along with seven other European institutions, has been funded by the European Commission through the 7th Framework Program.
The research has been divided into numerous working groups on different areas of study and the Ivie has been in charge of the work group dedicated to health services indicators. The information obtained is intended to facilitate the development of policies that support growth and productivity in this sector.
The indicators are divided into two main categories:
- Market services, the results of which are crucial in boosting the growth of the European Union with respect to its competitors.
- Non-market services, mainly offered by governments, where it is important for taxpayers to be able to assess how effective public spending is and how it contributes to the economy.
The project’s work results can be found in a series of Working Papers, available at the INDICSER website.
