Research Areas

This study aims to evaluate the resources and results of the universities in Spain from the perspective both of their inner performance and of their resources, and the socioeconomic environment and its main changes over time. The focus is placed on the economic dimensions of the analyzed processes, in particular, on issues such as efficiency and their relationship with the employment of graduates and their productivity.
After presenting a synthesis of the analysis carried out and of the most important conclusions, the first part of the study examines the following aspects: the Spanish universities in the international context, their structure, size and functioning, their funding, resources available and used, the efficiency of its institutions, the results obtained and services produced, the educational and research activities, and their specialization.
The second part of the monograph examines the productivity of graduates, in particular, the effect of having university studies and work experience on the wages and employment of graduates; the use of human capital considering the importance of the type of studies and the productive fabric of the country that employs the graduates; the training received by the graduates and their entrepreneurial capacity; the extent of overqualification among them; and lifelong learning for the productive use of human capital of the university graduates.
