The term “ageingnomics” refers to the economic impact of longevity. An aging population poses challenges for the welfare state in its current form, but also offers opportunities for the development of specific economic activities and also for the growth of regions featured by a greater incidence of aging or especially attractive to the elderly. This monograph will analyze these issues, in particular considering the following:
- Characteristics of older households: size, habitat, income (salaries and pensions), wealth, education level, equipment, time use.
- Consumption and expenditure breakdown for older households by age group (55-64, 65-74 and 75 years and older), per person and by consumption-equivalent unit.
- Private consumption by older individuals: direct and indirect impact on aggregate income and employment and main sectoral and occupational effects.
- Revenue and employment impact of public spending on services for the older population.
- Intensity of demand for public health and social protection services by the older population.
