The Valencian Community is located in the center of the so-called Spanish Mediterranean axis or arc (AME), made up of the Iberian Peninsula’s bordering regions with the Mediterranean Sea. Although this geographic location has made it attractive for certain population and investment movements, it also presents significant challenges and weaknesses. This study will analyze the location of the Valencian Community in this axis and its recent evolution, reviewing the most significant aspects from a socioeconomic perspective and in a context such as the current one, in which issues have arisen that need to be assessed. The list includes those associated with the attraction of top investments, talent and knowledge, the presence of the public sector, strategic infrastructures that guarantee connectivity and supply with Europe and the rest of the world from multiple perspectives, environmental protection, advances in the generation of new energy sources guaranteeing supply and greater autonomy from abroad.
