The project examines the main and unique characteristics of the aeronautical and space sector in Spain and Galicia, defining the group of companies entirely dedicated to the aeronautical and space activity which make up the “aerospace cluster”. By doing so, the quantitative and qualitative importance of the sector as a whole can be assessed fairly. In addition, the study will analyze the recent evolution of the total group of aeronautical companies in Galicia in comparison to Spain as a whole.

The report will not only review the net growth of companies in the sector, but also the importance of the “aeronautical cluster” in terms of GVA, employment and amount and type of companies that comprise it. This will take into account  information from various sources such as INE’s Central Business Register or Regional Accounts.

The report will also analyze the competitiveness of the sector, comparing the volume of companies by level of competitiveness in Galicia with that of Spain. Likewise, since competitiveness affects business results, indicators such as productivity per worker and per asset, profitability, liquidity, long-term solvency, indebtedness or internationalization will also becconsidered.

The aim is to analyze, among other aspects, whether the growth of the sector in Galicia and Spain has been based on the creation of new companies or due to the consolidation and growth of existing companies. In both cases, the reason behind the growth should be analyzed, assessing whether it is a consolidation process based on the strengthening of national markets or, if it is based on an increase in internationalization.
