Research Areas

Ivie and the Valencian Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Livestock, and Fisheries have renewed their agreement to continue the activities of the Valencian Agri-Food Economy Observatory in 2025. Their collaboration began in 2024 with the goal to produce research studies and analyses of the agri-food sector value chain, thereby enhancing knowledge and understanding of the key factors that determine competitiveness, efficiency, entrepreneurship, and the distribution of value among the various stakeholders involved.
In 2025, the Ivie will develop methodologies and conduct data analysis for the Observatory in order to: quantify the extent of foreign trade in the agricultural sector of the Valencian Community; characterize ownership and governance structures in agri-food companies and compare their levels of competitiveness; evaluate concentration processes in the agri-food sector; and assess the main challenges facing the agricultural sector and its competitiveness in the field of commercial distribution.
In addition, work will be carried out in the following areas of interest:
– A survey will be conducted of the available data in the tiger nut (chufa) sector to evaluate the creation of a specific tariff code for this tuber crop, given the importance of its production in the Valencian Community.
– An analysis will be carried, when possible, on how artificial intelligence can extract information from the document database of the Agricultural Processing Companies Registry.
