Research Areas

Within the research line that the Ivie develops for the BBVA Foundation, dedicated to the analysis of social capital, in 2005 and 2006 a methodology was developed for the estimation of the social capital variable and a social capital database was built for Spain and a set of OECD countries.

This research project continues this line of research, its main objectives being to revise the above mentioned methodology in the light of recent developments in the related literature, to update the estimates incorporating the evolution of social capital during the first decade of the 21st century, and to produce a monograph that analyzes the relationships among trust, the economic crisis and the evolution of social capital from an economic perspective.
