Research Areas

The Observatory of the Valencian Agri-Food Economy will be in charge of carrying out research studies and analysis of the value chain in the agri-food sector, in order to improve its knowledge and understanding of the factors that determine competitiveness, efficiency, entrepreneurship, or the distribution of value among the different participating agents. The specific purpose of this project is the development of methodology and data analysis in areas such as the competitiveness of the agri-food sector in the Valencian Community; its economic and financial characteristics; business demographics and entrepreneurship in the sector, as well as the diagnosis of agri-food cooperativism in the autonomous region. Additionally, we are working on a study to analyze the structure of production costs of a representative crop of the Valencian agri-food sector, such as citriculture. For this pilot project, the mandarin group has been selected, which presents the greatest differences in costs among the varietal groups. This study will address the costs determined by the geographical areas of production, irrigation systems, soil maintenance techniques and farm size, among others.
The Centro de Investigación in Gestión de Empresas (CEGEA) is providing support to the Ivie for this project.
