The document, developed jointly by BBVA Foundation and Ivie in 2022, presents the key results of investment and capital endowments for the Spanish economy.

The updated database covers the period 1964-2022 and is broken down by regions and provinces, tangible and intangible assets and industry sectors. The data on investment and capital stock has been updated until 2022 using nowcasting techniques, which is a significant new feature of this edition and enables the analysis of the effects of COVID-19 on capital accumulation in Spain, as well as the trajectory of the subsequent recovery.

The richness of the databank allows us to examine the trajectory of capitalization from a variety of angles, making it an essential tool to determine the sources of growth in Spain which has been used in over 1,000 research studies.

This paper describes the methodologies utilized for the construction of the databank and the evolution of investment patterns and capital stock since 1995, both at the national and regional levels. It also highlights the most significant changes brought on by the pandemic and their effects on growth.
