The reports on the economic impact of Mercadona demonstrate the driving effect the company’s activity has in generating income and jobs. As the supermarket chain is present all over Spain, it has an impact across the entire country at a level proportional to its activity in each region. The economic impact Mercadona has in a region arises both from the spending of Mercadona stores open in this region (on wages and salaries, operating costs, purchases from regional suppliers, etc.) and the spending of Mercadona stores outside the region (and central services) on goods and services provided by suppliers in this region.

Against this backdrop, the study aims to estimate the total economic impact of Mercadona in terms of production, value added and employment in the Spanish region of Castilla and León.
