The social costs of unemployment in Spain
The social costs of unemployment in Spain
Project start date: 2018
Year of publication: 2023
Funding institution: Fundación BBVA

Unemployment is an ongoing problem in Spain with clear social costs, given that the available resources are not being fully used. This underuse has an impact on the income and on the participation in economic and social life of people affected by unemployment. Given that these social costs are high, the objective of this project is to answer two key questions:  what are the social costs of unemployment and how can these be measured. The project will draw on concepts analyzed in other studies —such as inequality and poverty —to build indices that measure unemployment frequency and intensity.
