This monograph analyzes the evolution of expenditure of the Spanish public administration in education, health and social protection (pensions, unemployment, long-term care and social services) by region. The studied period starts in 2002 and ends in 2013, covering the years from the end of the expansion and the serious fiscal and economic crisis suffered by Spain since 2008. The research is based on extensive public data available on this period. Also, on the basis of this information, a new data bank has been built that compiles data on public expenditure by level of government (central, regional, local and Social Security), by autonomous community and by expenditure function.
