Research Areas

The Universitat de València (UV) has commissioned to the Ivie an analysis of the environment in which the UV undertakes its teaching and research activities, which will be used as a basis for the design of the new Strategic Plan of the University for the period 2012-2015. Thus, the purpose of this report has been to analyze the evolution of the different outputs (educational, research and knowledge transfer) produced by this university and their determinants. It places the UV in the competitive framework of the higher education institutions and compares the UV with the other universities that are part of its environment. Also special attention is given to the institutional pressures to which the UV activities will be subject during the period considered and the impact thereof, in particular, the possible effects of the 2010- 2017 Multi-Annual Plan for Financing of the Valencian Public University System designed by the Valencian Government.
The report focuses on the analysis of the following areas:
- Teaching: the demand trends for higher education in Spain, differentiating by courses of study and branches of knowledge; the UV’s capacity for attracting national and international students; the position of the UV in relation to its competitors, taking into account factors such as the specialization of the educational offer and its adjustment to demand; and the question of employability by qualification levels, identifying sources of employment for the university graduates.
- Research and knowledge transfer: the trends in the research activities and R&D expenditure in Spain and the Valencian Community, as well as their features.
- Institutional pressures: the changes that will affect the UV more intensely and clearly, considering different scenarios for the future and quantifying the impacts in terms of the differences in the financial resources for the UV.
- Other foreseeable effects on the UV: other pressures that arise from the economic and institutional environment, i.e., the economic and labor market situation, the development of the EHEA (European Higher Education Area), the Spanish legislation, etc.
