The banking relationships of Spanish firms

The aim of this study is to offer a descriptive analysis of the banking relationships of Spanish firms in the 2000-2010 period based on a sample of more than 200,000 companies. The report analyzes the differences that exist in the size, productivity, profitability, indebtedness, risks and cash flow of the Spanish companies according to the number of banking relationships, the type of financial institution with which they interact, the length of the relationship or its intensity, among other aspects. It also makes an in-depth analysis of the specific case of the construction and real estate sectors, given the importance of the behavior of the Spanish credit institutions and the different impact the crisis has had on these institutions in view of their exposure to the mentioned activities.
