IvieLAB. Labor Market Integration, Job Quality, and the Effectiveness of Education Policies: The Region of Valencia in Comparative Perspective

Project start date: 2026
Project end date: research in progress
Funding institution: Generalitat Valenciana

The aim of this research is to analyze labor market integration, job quality, and the effectiveness of education policies in the Region of Valencia, comparing its outcomes with those of Spain’s other autonomous communities. The study will distinguish between the three main levels of educational attainment, compulsory education, upper secondary education, and higher education, while paying particular attention, subject to data availability, to intermediate and higher vocational education and training within secondary and tertiary education.

The analysis will assess outcomes in terms of educational attainment and the main dimensions of labor market integration, including employment, the match between education and occupation, contract characteristics, and earnings. The study will therefore provide a comprehensive evaluation of how different educational pathways shape employment opportunities and labor market outcomes.

In addition, the report will examine the characteristics of regional productive structures that influence the utilization of human capital across Spain’s autonomous communities. Particular attention will be paid to the occupational structure of regional economies, job quality, and the capacity of labor markets to absorb vocational education and university graduates. By adopting a comparative perspective, the study seeks to identify the factors that contribute to more effective use of human capital and to better labor market outcomes for individuals with different educational backgrounds.
