Identification, analysis and estimation of the determinants of electricity demand in Spain
Project start date: 2015
Project end date: 2015
Funding institution: Iberdrola
This study carried out by the Ivie for Iberdrola aimed to estimate the degree of decoupling between electricity demand and its traditional determinants, i.e. GDP and population, as well as to assess the decoupling which has taken place in other sources of energy (oil and gas) and its causes.
The project is based on the assumption that decoupling has taken place between electricity demand and GDP in the productive sector, and between household demand and size of the population. Taking into account that GDP and population variables are not enough to find out precisely what the electricity demand is, new determinants of electricity consumption are identified to estimate their impact on it.
