Research Areas

The purpose of this research carried out for Ford Spain was to analyze the relevance that the investment plan of this company, V408 Ford Transit Connect, has for the Spanish economy, in general, and for the Valencian region in particular.
The report contains an analysis of the evolution of the Valencian economy in the Spanish and European contexts for the 2000-2012 period that describes the region’s steep economic decline as a result of the major impact of the crisis on this autonomous community. The key macroeconomic variables have been taken into account, as well as other features such as the productive structure, labor market, business size, external openness, the knowledge society and social cohesion of this region.
By means of an input-output analysis, an estimate of the economic impact that Ford Spain’s investment plan will have on Spain and the Valencian community has been made in order to quantify the direct impact on production, income and employment, as well as the indirect and induced impacts on the economy. A special analysis has been performed to quantify the impacts associated with investment and those derived from the rise of the operating costs led by the increase in the volume of production.
An assessment of the project’s contribution to the correction of the weaknesses of the Valencian economy has also been carried out.
