Research Areas

The Observatory, undertaken by the Bancaja Foundation and the Ivie, began as a project limited to the territory of the Valencian community and then expanded its coverage first to the cities of Madrid and Barcelona in 1999; then, in 2005, to the ‘urban Spain’ —a representative sample of municipalities with population over or equal to 50,000 inhabitants—-, and finally in 2008 to the ‘non-urban Spain’ —municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants. For this sixth edition, a sample design, maintaining the said areas, has been applied to carry out a more global analysis of Spain. In 2011 a sample of 2,000 young people was used.
Another new feature of this year’s Observatory has been the inclusion in the analysis of aspects related to the health and general well-being of young people and their contractual flexibility.
The report Crisis Económica e Inserción Laboral de los Jóvenes summarizes the results of the 2011 Observatory, gathers the details of the sample design, as well as the main characteristics of the sample, and analyzes the main findings on the training and employment of young people and their opinions and experiences in the labor market.
