Mercadona generates 2.1% GDP and 3.1% employment in the Spanish region of Andalusia
The Pablo de Olavide University, Universitat de València and Ivie have carried out a report on the economic impact of Mercadona, 100% Spanish-owned, family-run chain of supermarkets, in the region of Andalusia in terms of income (value added) and employment in 2016, taking into account not only the direct impact, but also the indirect and induced impacts generated along the value chain. The main conclusion of the report is that Mercadona generates 3,084 million euros of income, equivalent to 2.1% of GDP in the Spanish region of Andalusia, as well as 87,664 jobs, 3.1% of total employment in Andalusia.
