The 2018 Valencia Marathon generated 3.7 euros in tourist spending for every euro invested in the competition

The event attracted 73,642 runners and guests which resulted in a total of 186,105 overnight hotel stays in the city

The 2018 Valencia Trinidad Alfonso EDP Marathon and 10K race, held on 2 December 2018, had a total of 21,652 runners from other Spanish regions and abroad. Spending incurred by these runners and their guests (73,642 people) amounted to 17.7 million euros. While the race organizers, Sociedad Deportiva Correcaminos and Valencia’s City Council, invested a total of 4.8 million euros. This represents a return of 3.7 euros to Valencia for every invested euro.

According to the economic impact study of the event, Impacto económico del 38 Maratón Valencia Trinidad Alfonso EDP, carried out by the Ivie, the race participants who traveled to Valencia generated 186,105 overnight stays in Valencia city hotels, an increase of 11% over last year’s edition. Also, the Marathon produced an impact on the Valencian economy of 13.2 million euros in terms of income (i.e. wages and salaries, and return on GDP) and created an equivalent of 429 full-time jobs a year.

The report also includes the results of a race satisfaction survey carried out among 6,779 participants. According to the survey, 98% of the runners would highly recommend the Valencia Marathon to other runners, giving it an overall score of 8.8 out of 10 points.
