Spain's business leaders stress the need to promote the teaching of transversal skills in regulated education
José Ramos presented a report on education, drawn up by the Valencian Business Association (AVE), to family businesses in Madrid
The Family Business Association of Madrid (ADEFAM) and the Valencian Business Association (AVE), in collaboration with the Bertelsmann Space, held a conference to present the report El Compromiso de los empresarios con la educación: situación actual y retos de futuro (Business Commitment to Education: Current Situation And Future Challenges) to regional associations linked to the Family Business Institute (IEF). The report was prepared by AVE in collaboration with the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie).
José Ramos, Ivie researcher and co-author, gave the main conclusions of the report regarding education in Spain, covering the current situation, business community opinions and proposals for improvement.
According to Ramos, the main problems in education in Spain are the high dropout and repetition rates, the lack of training in transversal skills including digital skills, and the little weight given to vocational education and training.
The talk was introduced by Alberto Zoilo Álvarez, president of ADEFAM, Vicente Boluda, president of AVE, and Juan José Juárez, senior project manager of the Bertelsmann Foundation.
The presentation of the report was followed by a business roundtable discussion, moderated by José Luis Pérez, journalist and history advisor to the Spanish University Foundation (FUE), and participated in by Clemente González Soler, president of the Alibérico Group, Maite Marín, general director of Mas Camarena International Students’ Resort & Sport Centre, and Arturo de las Heras, president of CEF-UDIMA.
