Employability for university students varies considerably depending on the degree studied

The labor market integration prospects of university graduates vary greatly in terms of employment rates, whether their jobs reflect their training and their salaries. When these indicators were combined in a 2018 synthetic index to evaluate the situation of 2013-2014 university graduates, important differences could be observed between degrees. Thus, social security affiliation rates range from 92.1% for medicine to 51% for fine arts, graduates pursuing a career reflecting their training ranges from 99.7% for medicine to 14% for tourism, while gross salaries range from an average of 34,000 to 16,000 euros for medicine graduates and heritage conservation and restoration graduates, respectively. By disciplines, the data indicate that health science and engineering graduates are much more in demand than humanities and social science graduates; only 14% and 20%, respectively of the latter graduates achieve above-average labor market integration. The data point to a serious mismatch between university training offers and employability.
