Digital Economy in Spain and the Autonomous Communities: An International Extension
Project start date: 2025
Project end date: research in progress
Funding institution: Fundación Cotec
This project continues the work on measuring the digital economy that the Ivie has been carrying out in collaboration with Fundación Cotec for several years. The new edition updates the study Economía Digital En España: Avances y Retos Por Regiones y Sectores with the following objectives:
- Update the digital economy database by incorporating an additional year, providing national aggregate data with a sectoral breakdown up to 2024, as well as regional aggregate data for Spain’s Autonomous Communities up to 2024.
- Introduce two methodological improvements: (1) measuring changes in the digital content of non-ICT specialist occupations, rather than assuming this dimension remains constant over time; and (2) using data from the 2022 Wage Structure Survey to obtain more accurate estimates of the evolution of digital wages since 2018.
- Update the database for Spain, its sectors of activity and the Autonomous Communities using these methodological improvements. This will make it possible to assess whether the hypothesis put forward in the previous report—anticipating a renewed acceleration in digitalization—has been confirmed. The project will also incorporate an additional year of estimates into the analysis of digitalization in Spain.
