The Ivie 2024 Activity Report Now Available
The Ivie has strengthened its commitment to sharing research findings through in-person events and increased media outreach
Knowledge dissemination remains one of Ivie’s core missions. In 2024, the Institute expanded its outreach efforts through seminars, conferences, activities aimed at the public, and through the publication of studies in the media. Over the past year, the Ivie organized or participated in more than 50 seminars, scientific meetings, and other events, compared to 37 in 2023. It also issued 49 press releases, 10 more than the previous year.
These efforts resulted in significant media presence, with 5,580 news articles mentioning the Ivie—a 21% increase over 2023. Website traffic also grew by nearly 20%, with over 280,000 visits across Ivie’s website and project pages. This progress reflects both the consolidation of collaborations with long-standing partners, such as the BBVA Foundation, Ramón Areces Foundation, Cotec Foundation, and the Valencian Regional Government (Generalitat Valenciana), as well as new projects with institutions working with the Ivie for the first time, such as Umivale Activa.
Among the topics with the greatest media impact once again was the U-Ranking project by the BBVA Foundation, with 714 news mentions. In second place was the study for Umivale Activa on the evolution of temporary disability and workplace accidents in Spain, which generated 540 news articles from four brief reports. The Esenciales (Essentials) brief document series and the Observatory of Productivity and Competitiveness in Spain (OPCE), both developed with the BBVA Foundation, led to 422 and 363 news articles, respectively. Collaborations with the Valencian Regional Government, Ramón Areces Foundation, Cotec Foundation, and Cajamar also had notable media coverage.
In 2024, the Ivie worked on 65 research projects covering a wide range of economic topics, including investment and capital stock, education, digitalization, business competitiveness, regional financing, public policy evaluation, and the university system. Two new databases were added to Ivie’s collection: Spain’s Digital Economy, developed for the Cotec Foundation, and Productivity Tracker, part of the OPCE project with the BBVA Foundation. The tracker includes quarterly data on labor productivity, capital productivity, and total factor productivity (TFP) at the national and sectoral levels. In total, the Ivie website now offers 32 databases for public use.
Throughout the year, the Ivie organized various events, including a new series of dialogues in collaboration with the Ernest Lluch Foundation, which focused on equal opportunities. The GECE conferences on business competitiveness continued in partnership with CaixaBank, and the 12th Conference on the Spanish Banking Sector was held.
New additions to Ivie’s 2024 agenda included the 11th RIFDE Conference on Regional Finance and the Valencia Monitor Forum: Big Data and Innovation, held in Valencia in collaboration with El Confidencial and IVACE, with support from the European Commission.
