Socioeconomic study of the evolution of temporary disabilities and accident rates at work in Spain. A special look at its regions

Project start date: 2025

Project end date: research in progress

Funding institution: Umivale Activa

The continued increase in sickness absence rates due to temporary incapacity observed in recent years, which have reached concerning record levels, is an issue that Umivale Activa is keen to explore further. The objective is to better understand the factors and underlying drivers behind this phenomenon in order to develop mechanisms that support the effective and efficient management of the health of workers covered by the mutual insurance association. To this end, the project extends the monitoring and analysis undertaken in the recently published Socioeconomic Study of Trends in Sickness Absence and Workplace Accidents in Spain, prepared jointly by Umivale Activa and the Ivie.

This new project will update the analysis of labor absenteeism in Spain using the latest available data. Drawing on a range of statistical sources, the study seeks to provide reliable and up-to-date information on these trends, identify their underlying causes, and support evidence-based decision-making and the design of preventive measures. In this second joint project between Umivale Activa and the Ivie, particular emphasis will be placed on results broken down by autonomous community. The project includes the publication of Regional Fact Sheets presenting specific data for each autonomous community, as well as the seventh Brief Note in the series launched under the previous project.
