The percentage of foreigners over total population drops 19.6% despite the recovery of the migratory balance

The effects of the crisis were initially perceived by the decrease in the number of foreigners coming into Spain, taking on more importance those exiting the country, up to a maximum of 459,000 people in 2013. The beginning of the recovery of the Spanish economy marked a change in the trend: the outflow of foreigners dropped 25.8% between 2014 and 2016, allowing the recovery of the migratory balance and the increase of Spain’s population for the first time in six years. However, the percentage of foreigners over total population in 2017 stands at 9.8%, 19.6% lower than in 2010, the year with the highest percentage of foreigners.
