The rate of temporary employment in Spain is almost double than in the EU with regional differences of up to 16 percentage points

In Spain, the rate of temporary work reached its highest level in 2006, falling 32% since then until 2013, coinciding with the loss of employment as a result of the crisis. However, the recovery of the crisis also resulted in an increase in the number of temporary jobs to its current rate of 26.8%, the highest of all the European Union countries. The number of temporary contracts is very similar when analyzed by gender, although slightly higher among women. Workers with basic education and young people also have a high share of temporary contracts. In general, important differences exist across the Spanish regions with Andalusia and Extremadura being the ones with the highest percentage of workers with temporary contracts (over 35%) and Madrid the lowest with less than 20%.
