The Human Capital of Entrepreneurs in Spain
Year of publication: 2008
Number: 96
Abstract
This note begins a series of issues which explore diverse aspects of entrepreneurs' human capital in Spain. Note 96 focuses on the level of education of entrepreneurs in the whole of Spain over the period 1977-2006, according to the type of entrepreneur.Examining the educational improvements at a national level shows that currently entrepreneurs are, on average, much more qualified than three decades ago. While almost nine out of ten entrepreneurs did not complete the compulsory education at the time in 1977, 23% had university studies in 2006.Note 96 has been taken from the series "El capital humano y los emprendedores en España" conducted by Bancaja and the Ivie, which analyses the educational characteristics of Spain's entrepreneurs, and how their human capital affects wage-earnings and the firms they manage. The research team was made up of eight researchers from five Spanish universities and was directed by Lorenzo Serrano, Ivie researcher and senior lecturer at the Universitat de València. These monthly notes are avalaible in Spanish.
