Human Capital in the OECD countries

Abstract
Note number 82 in the Human Capital series compares Spain's human capital endowments to that of other countries, which permits the valuation of whether education levels are adequate or inferior to those of other developed countries. Despite the considerable advances in the education of Spain's population over the last 40 years (described in the previous note in the series), the situation is far from optimistic when Spain is put in an international context. On the basis of the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) data, this number presents figures on the average years of study in these countries, the registered improvements over the last decades and possible scenarios. The education level of young people is also compared to that of older groups, and the question raised whether there are differences between gender. The information in this series of notes has been taken from the study "El rendimiento del capital humano en España", carried out by the Ivie within the Human Capital Project developed by Bancaja. The research team was made up of Ivie researchers and senior lecturers at the Universitat de València, José Manuel Pastor and Lorenzo Serrano, along with José Luis Raymond and José Luis Roig, professor and senior lecturer at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, respectively.
