The General Council of Economists of Spain has awarded Matilde Mas the Grand Cross of Merit in Service to the Economy

The award was granted to Ivie’s Director of International Project, Matilde Mas, and economist Antón Costas

Ivie’s Director of International Projects, Matilde Mas, has been awarded by the General Council of Economists of Spain with the Grand Cross of Merit in Service to the Economy, in a virtual meeting held with the representatives of all the Associations of Economists and Commercial Graduates of Spain. The award was also given to the economist Antón Costas.

With this award, the institution recognizes their outstanding contribution to the economy, to the improvement of the image of the economist as a profession, as well as their collaboration with the Association of Economists. Since its creation in 2012, the Grand Cross of Merit in Service to the Economy has been awarded to Julio Alcaide (posthumously), José Barea, Juan Ramón Cuadrado, Manuel Lagares, José Luis Sampedro, Pedro Schwartz, Julio Segura, Ramón Tamames, Victorio Valle, Juan Velarde, Antonio Pulido, Vicente Salas, Antonio Argandoña and Josefa Fernández Arufe, among others.

The President of the Council, Valentín Pich, presented the award of the Grand Cross in a private act due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, in which Matilde Mas was accompanied by the Deans of the Association of Economists of Valencia, Juan José Enríquez, and of Alicante, Francisco Menargues. During his speech, Pich highlighted Matilde Mas’ capacity for making economic results available to society as a whole.

Matilde Mas graduated and took a PhD in Economics at the Universitat de València where she is Professor of Economic Analysis. Ivie’s Director of International Projects is member of Cotec’s Top 100 Experts. She is also director of the Project DIGITES (DIGital Technologies Segment data) commissioned by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. She has been advisor to the LA KLEMS Project for Latin America, coordinator of the Project SPINTAN (Smart Public Intangibles) funded by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union and has also participated in other EU projects (EU KLEMS, INDICSER, ICTNET, DICTA and PREDICT). She is co-author of 81 books/book chapters and of more than 80 articles in specialist journals. She is member of the Editorial Board of the journal Hacienda Pública Española, member of the Advisory Board of Ekonomiaz and of the Scientific Advisory Board of Cuadernos Económicos of the Spanish Commercial Information (ICE). Since July 2020, she has been Member of the Advisory Council for Economic Affairs of the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation.

She has contributed to society with her expertise in the following areas: knowledge economy, analysis of public capital (focusing on infrastructures), regional economy, new information technologies and intangible assets.
