Carmen Herrero Joins the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences
Carmen Herrero, Ivie Researcher and Professor Emeritus at the University of Alicante, has been elected as Full Member of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences (RACMYP). The academy serves as a forum for dialogue and debate on social, economic, philosophical, and political-legal issues. It operates as a legal, academic institution and is affiliated with the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, receiving partial funding from the Spanish government.
Founded in 1857, RACMYP is made up of 44 Full Members, each holding one of the Medals of Full Members, which are numbered from 1 to 44. Carmen Herrero will receive Medal No. 37, previously held by Juan Miguel Villar Mir.
The RACMYP meets weekly, every Tuesday, to discuss topics presented by its members. In addition to formal induction ceremonies, it organizes colloquiums, round tables, seminars, tributes, book presentations, and occasionally hosts or participates in activities with scholars and various institutions.
Carmen Herrero’s election as Full Member was approved during the Academy’s plenary session on 1 April 2025. Her official induction ceremony will take place at the end of the year, on a date yet to be announced.
With this appointment, Carmen Herrero adds yet another milestone to her distinguished academic career, which has always emphasized the role of economics in promoting social progress. Carmen Herrero, who was awarded the 2017 Rey Jaime I Prize in Economics, calls for greater investment in knowledge, research, and innovation to secure a better future for coming generations.
We warmly congratulate our esteemed colleague and excellent researcher on this well-deserved recognition from this distinguished institution, which reflects how her work has once again been publicly acknowledged. We are proud and delighted to have Carmen as part of Ivie’s research team. Congratulations, Carmen!
