The University of Valencia has awarded the high distinction Cum Laude to the PhD thesis presented by Ángel Soler, thus receiving the title of Doctor

His research work analyzes the role of higher education in the development of modern societies

The Ivie economist, Ángel Soler, received the title of Doctor from the University of Valencia upon defending his dissertation University Education in Spain and the European Union: economic effects and social contributions on 13 July 2018 before the following committee: Carmen Pérez (Autonomous University of Madrid), Juan Gómez (University of Murcia) and Lorenzo Serrano (University of Valencia), obtaining the maximum qualification (Cum Laude).

The results of his research give evidence of the importance of higher education as a modulating factor of gender inequalities in the labor market. In addition, the information shows that the most important variable in academic progress is the parents’ educational level and that the educational level of the mother has the greatest influence.

Ángel Soler, who is also an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Economics (University of Valencia), points out that the existence of higher education institutions increases the supply of qualified human and technological capital, as well as the economic growth and per capita income. The thesis, directed by José Manuel Pastor and Carlos Peraita, confirms the key role of university education in the development of modern societies from both an economic and social perspective.
