Ivie Celebrates its 35th Anniversary with a Special Program of Activities
Over the coming months, a series of workshops, seminars, and conferences will be held to commemorate the anniversary
The Ivie marks 35 years of economic research—a period during which it has become a benchmark in Spain for economic analysis and information on a wide range of topics, all from its base in Valencia. Since its founding in 1990, Ivie has been dedicated to generating and disseminating new socioeconomic knowledge, establishing itself as a meeting point for researchers, academics, professionals, and public policymakers. Its research and databases have increasingly reached both experts and the general public through the media, helping to foster and inform public debate. This contribution has been essential for rigorously addressing social and economic transformations and guiding decision-making.
The Institute is especially grateful to its partners: Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Regional Government), BBVA Foundation, CaixaBank (formerly Bancaja), Cañada Blanch Foundation, Ford Spain, Funcas, and Mediterranean Foundation. Their ongoing support over time has been essential for the Ivie’s operations and development. Ivie also appreciates the trust placed in it by numerous institutions throughout its 35-year history, which have sponsored its research lines and various projects. Thanks to hundreds of collaborations with governments, companies, foundations, universities, and many other organizations, the Institute has expanded its thematic scope and strengthened its capacity to deliver meaningful results. Over the course of its history, Ivie has carried out more than 1,000 research projects and developed over thirty databases and indicator systems, all of which are publicly available, in line with open-access principles.
Currently, Ivie’s research spans a broad range of study areas. Its well-established analyses on capital stock, productivity, education, employment, regional financing, financial economics, income distribution, and the functioning of the university system have been progressively complemented by other areas of knowledge over the years. Topics such as public policy evaluation, digital transformation, globalization, and business competitiveness have become regular features of Ivie’s work. Additionally, the Institute’s economic impact analyses and sectoral studies serve as valuable tools for both business management and policy design.
For the more than 50 people working at Ivie—including associate researchers, research technicians, and other specialists—this 35th anniversary is a meaningful milestone. It offers an opportunity to reflect on the journey of a project supported by a solid team of experts and a track record of socially recognized achievements. That is why the Ivie team wishes to share this celebration with all the institutions and individuals who have collaborated with the Institute over the years, participated in its activities, or benefited from its services—and, above all, with the society it strives to serve.
To mark the occasion, the Institute has prepared a commemorative program that will unfold over the coming months, featuring several workshops, seminars, and conferences with economists and prominent figures from different disciplines. Among the activities, the program includes the Ivie–Ernest Lluch Foundation Dialogues 2025: Collective Actions for Global Challenges (October); Rifde 2025 Meeting, a forum for debate on regional economics that will explore the trajectory and sustainability of public spending, in November; and a new edition of the Spanish Banking Sector Conference (December).
Ivie’s 35th anniversary events will continue through the first half of 2026 and will conclude with a commemorative conference in the spring. The closing event will bring together experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence presents for economic research.
Complete information about all the activities scheduled for the celebration of Ivie’s 35th anniversary will be published on the Institute’s website and social media channels.
