Fedea and Ivie put forward proposals to reform the current Spanish regional financing system

More than 150 business leaders, politicians and academics participated in the conference held in Valencia

The Ivie-Fedea conference meeting, which was held on 27 September 2016 in Valencia to discuss the current regional financing system and to consider suggestions for improvement, counted with the attendance of more than 150 people. The Valencian Regional Minister for Finance and the Economic Model, Vicent Soler, opened the session which was organized by Fedea and Ivie, in collaboration with AVE and FIOP.

The debate session was structured in two parts: the first reviewed the current situation of the financing system and presented proposals to reform it; and the second was an open discussion in which the participants shared their opinions.

The event included participation by Anna Balletbó, President of FIOP; Ángel de la Fuente, Director of Fedea and Researcher (on leave) of IAE (CSIC); Agnes Noguera, Vice President of AVE; Joan Rosselló, Professor at the University of the Balearic Islands and member of the Balearic Islands’ Court of Auditors; Antoni Zabalza, Professor at the University of Valencia; and Francisco Pérez, Professor at the University of Valencia and Ivie Research Director.

The participants at the meeting came to the conclusion that the current financing system is overly complex and non-transparent, by which the experts agreed that the new model should be simple and easy to understand.

Representatives of the regional government and firms, as well as academics, had the opportunity to express their points of view in the debate that took place at the end of the session.
